Father and son died in serious collision on Highway 6, Manitoba RCMP investigating

Two people are dead after what RCMP said was a serious motor vehicle collision on a Manitoba highway.
Officers with the Stonewall RCMP were called to Highway 6, at the scene of a collision that left the highway closed in both direction from Provincial Road 323 to Provincial Road 411, on Thursday morning. By 1 p.m., officials said the highway was reopened.
In a release later in the day, police said the collision occurred when a vehicle going south on the highway went into the oncoming lane and collided with a semi-truck heading north. The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old man, and his 1-year-old child were pronounced dead on scene.
The 74-year-old truck driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is ongoing, and police said icy conditions is believed to have been a factor.
Speaking to 680 CJOB, Corp. Julie Courchaine said conditions on Manitoba highways can be icy this winter season. Check the conditions, she added, and make sure it is safe to head out.
She added that police had been called to several collisions across the province at the time, emphasizing that the Highway 6 incident was considered serious.
